Camille Saint-Saëns “Romance” , Wojciech Chałupka “Ereb”

Romance op. 37 Camillea Saint-Saënsa is a lyrical, Romanticist work composed in 1871. It has a melodious, elegiac melody typical for French Romanticist music and rich harmony which both accompanies and enters into a dialogue with the flute. The piece was composed as a single part with contrasting sections – from gentle, cantilena beginning to more expressional parts.

Ereb for the flute and accordion by Wojciech Chałupka is an example of contemporary chamber music. The work is characterized by changing dynamics, multiple changes in the tempo and intense contrasts between the instruments which create a unique, almost theatrical musical narrative. Ereb is a demanding piece of music – technically and in terms of interpretation, but at the same time, it is a very interesting contemporary work.
